CPRE hosts one of Manchester’s Green Summit Listening Events

Listening Events being held in advance of Andy Burnham’s Green Summit in March.

CPRE Northwest Region was extremely pleased to host a public lecture on 23 January 2018 given by Professor Kevin Anderson, Deputy-Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research at the University of Manchester.

Following Professor Anderson’s talk, Louise Marix Evans of Quantum Strategy and Technology Limited ran a session to provide material that will be fed into the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham’s Green Summit on the 21st March.

This session is one of a number of Listening Events being held in the run up to the Green Summit. These will feed into the Greater Manchester Environment Charter which will be launched at the Mayor’s Green Summit as a call to action for the public sector, communities, businesses and voluntary organisations to deliver a thriving and sustainable city for the future. After the Summit, this will then lead to the production of a Post 2020 Greater Manchester Environment Strategy.

Key issues that were identified during the session were more and better integrated transport, local farm food networks, energy and waste demand reduction, investment in the renewable sector, reuse of brownfield to avoid further incursions into natural environments, and harnessing of low carbon technologies in new development. The raw data has been collated below.

CPRE urges the Mayor to do all that is possible to address climate change issues, and to progress a spatial plan that will enhance and protect urban green and rural areas.

We hope our members and the public will echo our concerns and the public can get involved in this process by taking part in the Mayor’s Green Summit online survey.
