About the meeting
CPRE sees the creation of the Liverpool City Region (LCR) Combined Authority led by Steve Rotheram, Metro Mayor, as an opportunity to plan strategically for the City Region’s environment, as well as for its economic and social infrastructure. With devolved powers including planning and transport, combined authorities can be at the forefront of environmental solutions. Steve Rotheram’s mayoral manifesto dedicated an entire chapter to his “Green” ambitions.
Join CPRE Lancashire, Gideon Ben-Tovim, the LCR Mayoral Advisor on the natural environment, and others to discuss progress towards a greener city region and how communities can get involved.
CPRE Lancashire will start with an update on their activities and priorities for the City Region, covering rural and urban areas. Then Mark Dickens, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, will give an introduction to the Liverpool City Region Spatial Development Strategy, which will be the high-level strategic plan for all future development in the city region. We will cover its scope and limitations, outline timescales for delivery, the process for developing it, and opportunities for public engagement.
Next, we will launch and demonstrate the CPRE Lancashire Brownfield Land Registers Toolkit. CPRE has developed this toolkit to enable communities and planning departments to work together to maximise the potential for brownfield development in their areas. It will help communities make the best use of their on-the-ground knowledge to provide planners with the information they need to make sure their brownfield resource is fully taken into account.
Gideon Ben-Tovim, chair of Nature Connected (the LCR Local Nature Partnership), and Steve Rotheram’s Mayoral Advisor on the natural environment, will introduce the final session. He will outline the City Region’s environmental priorities, and review progress towards them since the Metro Mayor took office and the Combined Authority was established, and outline future plans. An interactive workshop will then give participants the opportunity to reflect and feed back on their experience on the ground of environmental progress, the most important steps that need to be taken in the next two years, and how they and their groups, organisations and neighbourhoods can contribute.
