The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) advocates plan led development to promote sustainable development in the future, but it questions several aspects of the draft Greater Manchester Spatial Plan.

Therefore, CPRE is holding a meeting to consider the Plan on 7th December 2016 from 10.30am - 12.30pm at the Friends Meeting House, 6 Mount Street, Manchester M2 5NS. Members of CPRE, local community and environmental groups as well as members of the public are welcome to attend.

The meeting purpose will be to discuss:

• Is the GMSF the right plan?
• The scale of development – is another city the size of Manchester needed in Greater Manchester in the next 20 years.
• The value of Green Belt land and the local plan process (such as Salford’s current consultation) for reviewing its boundaries?
• Can more be done to deliver needed jobs and homes on vacant previously developed sites to revitalise our urban areas?
• Can the development density be increased in central locations to take pressure off the countryside?
• What proportion of development is based on new public transport infrastructure?
• Will there be harmful impacts of the development on Greater Manchester’s environmental quality, particularly air and water?
• What can be done to improve the sustainability of development in the plan?
